Boats wooden: fixtures metal: salt water and algae: slow deposit and new growth….. The rudder on an elderly boat changes its clothing and slowly its identity, as nature inexorably takes over artefact. I loved the beautiful juxtaposition of gentle mineral rust colours and fading paint, with vibrant new marine life on various parts of the boat. The rudder and its corroding steel bracing and bolts really caught my eye.

Jackie Hollingsbee

Cornish visual artist, working in oils and mixed media

I grew up on the north coast of Cornwall and although I’ve lived and worked in Southeast Asia, in Spain and in Scotland, all of which informed my work in different ways, Cornwall has always drawn me home.
